When a pagan passes over, we call it crossing the river. This comes from the ancient world when your soul was thought to cross a river in order to enter the after life. Our final destination is the summerland, where we will be with the Goddess and God for all times. We also belive in recarnation so before we can remain in the summerland we must complete a series of tasks on this world. 

A crossing the river ritual is similar to a funeral, but we accept that we morn the loss of one not because they are gone, but because we are still here.
